“I felt her for a moment… and then I lost her.” With a broken voice, the husband of the deceased Greta (73) from Kapelle-op-den-Bos in Flemish Brabant tells how he and their good friend, artist Guido Van Causbroeck, jumped into an ice-cold pond on Wednesday evening to save her. The couple was just about to leave for home after dinner when Greta slipped on a narrow stone bridge in Guido’s garden and ended up in the water. What followed was a desperate rescue attempt in total darkness. “We tried everything. The two of us. Until we couldn’t do it anymore.”
