Marlene Fichtner and Danilo Riethmüller are the second German duo to take part in the Biathlon World Team Challenge in Schalke.
As the DSV announced, there will be two German teams competing in the Biathlon on Schalke in the Veltins Arena. In addition to the already well-known duo of Janina Hettich-Walz and Justus Strelow, Marlene Fichtner and Danilo Riethmüller will also take part in Schalke on December 28th.
Fichtner: “It was always a dream to be able to run there”
For Marlene Fichtner, this is a dream come true: “Even as a young girl, I thought the event was amazing – and it was always a dream to be able to run there myself one day. To start in a football stadium full of biathlon fans will be simply incredible.” said the 22-year-old. For her duo partner Riethmüller it is already the third start at Schalke. He also describes the competition as a very special one: “It’s a magical race with emotions everywhere. The atmosphere there is unique”.
Aspiration: Be there and have fun
The last German victory was at the Biathlon World Team Challenge, which is not part of the World Cup classification, nine years ago when Vanessa Hinz and Simon Schempp won. Last year, the Norwegian duo Knotten/Lagreid was at the top of the podium ahead of the two German duos Weidel/Strelow and Preuß/Nawrath. Riethmüller’s goal for this year is that he and Marlene Fichtner “Just have fun and give people a good show” want.
