For the first time this season, FC Bayern leaves the pitch as a loser in a competitive game. The coach doesn’t want to make excuses and holds his players accountable.
FC Bayern lost 3-1 in the Champions League top game at Arsenal. In the 19th game of the season it was the record champions’ first defeat.
Coach Vincent Kompany took the defeat soberly and acknowledged the Gunners’ strong performance. After the game at the Emirates Stadium, the Belgian said on the microphone of streaming service DAZN: “But what should I do now? I don’t like excuses. We’ve lost now, let’s honestly say that Arsenal were better today. The Champions League won’t be decided now. We haven’t lost anything today. But the feeling is that Arsenal are now leaving this game with a lot of faith.”
At the same time, Kompany made his players responsible for the upcoming games: “But we have to react now, that’s part of it. And if we took the steps in March or April that we still want to take, then the game has also played its role for us.”
National player Serge Gnabry analyzed: “We didn’t do much going forward in the second half. You have to accept that sometimes you’ll lose.”
