The Eisbären Berlin were unable to stop ERC Ingolstadt’s winning streak. On Wednesday evening, the German champions lost 2:5 (0:1, 0:2, 2:2) to the new leaders of the German Ice Hockey League (DEL). It was the ninth win in a row for Bayern.
The Berliners’ attempt to catch up is not rewarded
In front of 3,863 spectators in the Ingolstadt Arena, the guests incurred their first time penalties early on and were under pressure from the start. Riley Barber gave the home team the lead in the fifth minute after Berlin lost the puck in their own zone.
Because the Ingolstadt team also had to go to the penalty box more often, the Eisbären found their way into the game a little better. However, the hosts remained dangerous on the counterattack and were able to extend their lead 36 seconds after the first period break thanks to a successful solo effort by Austen Keating. Kenny Agostino increased the score to 3-0 (37′) after another quick move.
It was only in the final section that the Berliners were able to improve and create tension again with goals from Blaine Byron (42nd) and Liam Kirk (50th). However, Peter Abbandonato (59th) and Alex Breton (60th) ensured Ingolstadt’s victory with their late goals.
