After making a name for herself in rallies with the 450 capable of finishing the Dakar at a much lower price than her rivals, Kove brings the same philosophy to the cross tracks. Twin-cam engine, mature chassis and high-quality components coexist with a price list that stops below the seven thousand euro threshold

The Chinese Koveinstead of making themselves known with cheap naked or “catalogue” enduros, has decided to enter through the narrowest door, that of rallies. The 450 Rally brought the Chinese brand to the Dakar, with three bikes at the start and three at the finish line in an edition in which many famous names stopped before their time. And it did so by offering a true desert bike, at a much more accessible price than its European rivals. A choice that raised many eyebrows among enthusiasts and professionals. This strategy helps to understand the meaning of MX250 second generation, or Factory Edition. It is not the classic product put together to fill a range, it is the translation, in a motocross key, of a philosophy already tested on stones and sand.

From the desert to the cross track

The MX250 was born with a declared objective, namely to enter the group of 250 “real” 4Tsthe ones with which you show up at Sunday races without having to invest a fortune in its development. The price, in this sense, is already a manifesto; in Italy the R version is offered at 6,990 eurosmuch less than a latest generation Japanese 250 and very far from the new super-refined Europeans that have now broken through the eleven thousand barrier. On paper however, there is almost nothing that suggests a compromise entry level. The 250 cc four-stroke single-cylinder is a twin camshaft with injection, and the power is close to 40 HP. A double steel cradle structure was chosen as the frame, with fully adjustable suspension and chassis dimensions aligned with those of a modern cross.

“Factory” components not screamed

If the first series of the MX250, distributed mainly in other markets, had convinced more for its chassis than for the character of the engine, the second generation promises to mark the real leap in quality. The engine has been redesigned, the production plant has also changed and today those who have ridden it describe it as a finally balanced motorcycle. The engine is more effective at medium speeds, it is not as rabid as a world championship MX2, but offers full and exploitable progression, ideal for the amateur or for those who race in national championships. Below the medium threshold he is polite, he doesn’t tear his arms away, at the top he doesn’t have the infinite anger of the most exasperated 250s, but allows you to ride without squeezing the single cylinder in every stretch. The chassis, for its part, was designed more for stability than for extreme nervousness. Those who have tried it on real, hard, dug outdoor tracks, with channels and deep holes, underline the immediate feeling. A very normal cross, in the best sense of the termthe one that puts you at ease after a few laps, without having to tame it first.

a price list that makes noise

All this, added to the price, is the real strong point of the Kove. The Chinese woman introduces herself with a 250 ready to race just under seven thousand euros, without forcing you to immediately invest in professional suspensions, complete exhausts and aluminum accessories. In parallel, the 450 Rally continues to rack up kilometers and credibility between Africa and national championships, fueling that idea of a new brand, but already established in the field, which makes the difference when it comes to real races and not just Sunday outings.

difficult to ignore

But the real game will probably be played elsewhere, in the regional paddocks, in the minor championships, where private drivers have to choose how to spend their budget. If faced with a quote of over eleven thousand euros there is, as an alternative, a 250 4T with credible performance, serious components and a pedigree already tested in rallies, offered for much less, How many can really afford to ignore it? This is where Kove risks becoming uncomfortable.
