Actress Tara Reid was briefly hospitalized over the weekend after claiming she was drugged in a Chicago hotel bar. She was in town for an autograph session.
Incident in the hotel bar
The “American Pie” star told TMZ that she stopped by her hotel’s bar for a glass of red wine on Saturday night and briefly went outside for a cigarette. While she was away, someone must have mixed something into her drink in the crowded bar. When she came to, she “was unconscious [und] in the hospital”.
“Tara is recovering and requests privacy during this traumatic time,” a rep for the actress told Rolling Stone. “She also urges everyone to be careful to keep an eye on their drinks. And to never leave them unattended as this can happen to anyone.”
In footage obtained by TMZ, Reid is seen at a DoubleTree hotel, slurring her speech and sliding out of a wheelchair before a medical team takes her away on a stretcher. Reid said she came to in the hospital. The doctors told her that she had been drugged. She claimed they never told her what drug might have drugged her.
Performance despite medical scares
Despite the incident, Reid still appeared on the Chicago Sports Spectacular show on Sunday afternoon. Where she posed with fans who had bought tickets to meet her.
Event organizer Rhonda Adelstein confirms to Rolling Stone that Reid’s team said she was taken to the hospital and would be slightly late. She wouldn’t arrive until just after 11:30. “Even though she was late, she still came,” says Adelstein. “I haven’t heard anything negative at all. She was obviously very polite and friendly to everyone.”
Reid told TMZ that she noticed a group of YouTubers at the hotel bar. And that she was considering filing a police report to find out what happened. She emphasized that she only had one drink before she lost consciousness. She considers herself lucky that the situation did not escalate further.
