Bad news before the Olympics
Ski ace falls – and sustains serious injuries
November 24, 2025 – 7:16 a.mReading time: 1 min.
Just a week after their best result of the season so far, winter ends abruptly. Neja Dvornik falls badly and suffers a complex fracture.
Neja Dvornik started the new season strongly and registered for the World Cup after her seventh place in Levi (Finland) last week and even recommended herself as a podium candidate. But at the race in Gurgl (Austria), the Slovenian technology specialist suffered a serious setback: while entering the slalom, she fell and suffered a fracture of her tibia and fibula above her right ankle.
The Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS) confirmed the diagnosis on Sunday evening. For Dvornik, the injury means not only an operation and a return home, but also the immediate end of the season – as well as the early exit from the Winter Olympics in February.
In an international comparison, the 24-year-old joins a growing number of injured World Cup riders. In the past few weeks, the American Katie Hensien had already been out with a broken tibia and the Swiss Lara Gut with a torn cruciate ligament. The latter even has to fear for her career.
