NAC Breda is fighting to stay in the upper house in the second year after promotion to the Eredivisie and can now rely on prominent and experienced support for the rest of the season. Former Premier League professional Denis Odoi signs with 16th place. of the Dutch upper house – as one of the oldest players to change clubs this season.
Right-back Odoi turned 37 in May. Among all players worldwide who have a market value and have found a new club this season, only 17 players are older than Odoi. For the Belgian-born player, it is the first contract he has signed in the Netherlands after six professional positions in his home country and one in England. After his last working paper with Royal Antwerp expired in the summer, the contract in Breda is now valid until next summer and can be extended for another season via an option from NAC.
“Apart from the current wave of injuries in the defense, we are already preparing for the coming winter transfer window with this new addition,” explained NAC director Peter Maas. “We obviously know Denis from his past, but we also followed him in his last season at Royal Antwerp FC. His ambition and passion are unbroken.” The club is trying to register Odoi for the upcoming away games in Rotterdam with Excelsior and Sparta. In the season so far, Breda has got twelve points from 13 games and is only two points ahead of the bottom of the table, newly promoted Telstar.
Odoi won the Belgian championship title twice and played in the Champions League during his time at RSC Anderlecht (2012 and 2013) and Club Bruges (2022 and 2024). He also won the Belgian Cup with KSC Lokeren in 2014. He was also champion in the second English league, where he was promoted to the Premier League with Fulham in 2022 and made 34 appearances there. He appeared 14 times for the Ghanaian national team.
