Kevin Spacey is not homeless. After the disgraced actor told the Telegraph that he had been bouncing between hotels and Airbnbs (“I literally don’t have a home”), Spacey posted a video on Instagram, in which he clarified the “rumors” about his housing status.
“I feel the need to respond,” he said.
“Not to the press, but to the thousands of people who have reached out in the last few days and offered me a place to stay or simply asked if I was OK.”
Spacey explains video message
“And to all of you, I want to first say that I am truly touched by your generosity, period,” he added.
The clarifying comments come after he described his financial situation to the Telegraph as “not great” and admitted bankruptcy was something that was “discussed”. In recent years, Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct by more than a dozen men. He has denied all allegations.
Spacey said in his video that “it would be dishonest of me to let you believe that I am actually homeless in the colloquial sense.” He also criticized the Telegraph for misrepresenting his words in the headline while defending the reporter who interviewed him.
Court rulings and professional difficulties
In 2023, Spacey was acquitted in a London court in a case in which four men said he sexually assaulted them between 2001 and 2013. He was also found not liable in a 2022 civil lawsuit brought by actor Anthony Rapp, in which he claimed Spacey abused him when he was 14.
Spacey has struggled to get hired as an actor since 2017, when the allegations came to light. He has appeared in a few projects and recently performed a variety show in Cyprus, which is the focus of the Telegraph article. In the interview he claimed that he was slowly getting more work again.
