Ylenia Carrisi disappeared in New Orleans on the night between 31 December 1993 and 1 January 1994, without leaving a trace. Many leads have been followed over the years, from the one according to which thrown into the Mississippi al kidnapping, but none have ever found official confirmation.

A pain still alive

The family was only notified of Ylenia’s disappearance on January 7th and rushed to New Orleans. “We stayed for almost a month” said Romina Power to Corriere della Sera. “Then Al Bano pressed to return: he had work commitments.” The singer also recalled the closeness of Sophia Loren in those difficult days: «I can’t forget his phone call. He started crying, she was close to me from mother to mother.” Difficult moments, never really overcome, also due to the many speculations about his daughter. «Here in Milan there was a newspaper called The Night. He made a huge headline on the front page: “Ylenia is dead”. Without proof, without anything. But how should a mother who has hope in her heart feel?” underlined Romina Power.

However, that wasn’t the only thing that hurt her. «They also said that we were keeping Ylenia hidden in the house in order to advertise ourselves. Not to mention the false things about my daughter: that she used drugs, that she chose to jump into Mississippi. But Ylenia she was curious, brilliant, she was one exam away from graduating from King’s College. And he knew how to swim. I never believed the version of the Aquarium keeper who said he had seen her (the man declared he had seen a woman matching Ylenia’s description throw herself into the river, ed): his description was unreliable.” Ylenia Carrisi, who would be 55 years old today, was declared presumed dead in December 2014, at the request of her father. Romina Power, however, is always waiting for her.
