Motorsport federation FIA has now officially reported that the plank under the cars of both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is said to have worn too much. “The measured thickness was less than nine millimeters on both cars,” the FIA said.
The incident has been referred to the stewards, but would normally result in a disqualification. That happened to Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) in China earlier this year, for example.
Norris finished second in Las Vegas, behind winner Max Verstappen. If Norris were disqualified, Verstappen’s deficit in the World Cup standings would suddenly be only 24 points instead of 42.
