The Polar Bears Berlin After two wins in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL), we suffered another defeat. The German champions lost against EHC Red Bull Munich 1:3 (0:1, 1:1, 0:1). Andreas Eder scored the only goal for the capital city team, who were overall lacking in determination and efficiency.
In front of 14,200 spectators in the sold-out arena at Ostbahnhof, both teams were rarely dangerous in the early stages. The guests were at least able to take advantage of their first outnumbered situation: Patrick Hager scored for Munich in the 14th minute.
Polar bears are not determined enough in their attack
The home side were able to equalize after the first break because Eder capitalized on strong work from Jonas Müller (26′), but just 54 seconds later Markus Eisenschmid restored the visitors’ lead.
On the Munich side, national goalkeeper Mathias Niederberger had to leave the ice shortly before the second break due to an injury. But even against his replacement Antoine Bibeau, the polar bears were unsuccessful in their often too complicated attacking efforts.
The guests were more efficient: Eisenschmid secured Munich’s victory with his second goal after Eisbären goalie Jake Hildebrand went off the ice for an additional field player (59th).
