FC Bayern’s basketball players suffered the next bankruptcy at Baskonia – and continued to struggle with the mammoth program in the Euroleague. There are five more away games in Europe’s premier class on the program until Christmas.

Bayern lost 73:95 at Baskonia on Friday evening and suffered their third defeat in a row in Europe’s premier basketball league. The Munich team is in 16th place in the table with five wins and seven defeats.

For Bayern it was already the 20th competitive game of the season, and given the mammoth program, TJ Parker, who once again represented head coach Gordon Herbert after his Covid illness, rotated as before: Last week against Anadolu Efes, Johannes Voigtmann, Justus Hollatz and Andreas Obst, among others, were allowed to take a break.

Bayern got off to a strong start, but then lost their rhythm

The three European champions were there again in Vitoria. The Munich team got off to a strong start in the Basque Country – led by Obst, who scored eight points in the first quarter alone. Bayern took a 26:14 lead, but then lost the thread on offense. Spencer Dinwiddie’s action matched this: the star newcomer from the NBA blocked himself during a dunk – and remained without a point until the break. Baskonia went into halftime with a narrow lead (42:41).

The Munich team continued to look for their rhythm, but the game remained disjointed. Even from a distance, there was little for Bayern. Obst was all too often left as the last scoring option, but was unable to turn the game around on his own and was successfully tackled by Baskonia’s defense. In the end, the otherwise strong long-range shooter only hit 2 of 8 attempts from beyond the three-point line. The Munich team only scored 32 points in the second half, against one of the weakest defenses in the Euroleague. Baskonia pulled away little by little – Markquis Nowell increased the lead to 17 points with a three-pointer five minutes before the end and the game was decided.

Seven Euroleague away games in one go for FC Bayern

For the Munich team, the game in Vitoria was the second guest appearance of a total of seven Euroleague away games in a row until Christmas. Bayern will only play at home again in Europe’s premier class on matchday 23. During this time, the German champion will fly more than 20,000 kilometers.

The EuroLeague’s strange schedule stipulates that the Munich team will play again in Spain next Tuesday, then at FC Valencia. In between, the Bayern team jets home briefly for a game; on Sunday the top duel against the runner-up from Ulm is on the agenda.
