Pierre Noël (65), better known as Pierre Demesmaeker, has placed his last Christmas tree – at least for the time being. Just as the holidays are approaching, the news comes out that his company Inter-Arbo from Vlezenbeek (Sint-Pieters-Leeuw) in Flemish Brabant was declared bankrupt in September. Yet he still put the Christmas tree on the Grand Place in Brussels on Thursday. “I did that for free, as a sign of service,” he says. However, he hasn’t had enough of Christmas trees yet. But how did it come to this?
