Arrest warrant’s new song “Dünya garip” tells of homelessness and uprooting. Produced by oddworld, the track speaks in Turkish about Aykut Anhan’s migration experience.

Arrest Warrant has released a new song. “Dünya garip” was released on November 20th at 11:59 p.m. and is sung in Turkish. Translated, the title means “The world is strange” – a leitmotif for the piece, which tells of homelessness, strangers and uprooting.

Produced by the duo oddworld, the song describes the perspective of a boy from Istanbul who had to leave his homeland to find refuge and safety in a new country. “But he quickly realizes that the people here are different than he expected: everyone seems to be crazy about money and consumption, and humanity is lost,” is how the artists describe the story of the song, which is essentially a story of a lack of perspective and uprooting.

“The song is a mirror for many people with a migrant background”

“The streets of Europe, which are supposed to offer protection and equal opportunities, are poisoning young people – a contradiction that many people are familiar with,” writes the producer duo oddworld. The arrest warrant also reflects his own experiences that he had at a young age.

“The song is a mirror for many people with a migrant background who are looking for a new, better life for themselves and their families, but often encounter misunderstandings, exclusion and hurdles. People who still don’t give up, carry on and fight for their own little happiness – even if no one believes in them. That’s what the arrest warrant wants,” it continues. The rapper observes the world and himself with his new single.

The producer duo, consisting of Minhtendo and Alexis Troy, also find themselves personally reflected in the song: “At first we only received raw sentences. Even though we don’t speak Turkish, it grabbed us straight away. The pain and honesty in Aykut’s voice reaches everyone. When we were with him and listened to music, made music and looked into each other’s eyes, we knew that even though we come from different cultural backgrounds: we have the same culture.”

“A poem without pop formulas”

The song is actually a poem, they explain. “We decided to leave the structure of the song unconventional, without following pop formulas and without having to repeat the chorus more often, for example. It’s like a soundtrack to a film, and the music should put Aykut’s voice and emotion on a pedestal.”

The Offenbach rapper arrest warrant has been receiving increased attention in the last few weeks since his documentary “Babo – The Arrest Warrant Story” appeared on Netflix. The film, released on October 28th, was viewed millions of times and reached number one on Netflix films in Germany, Austria and Switzerland after its release. Produced by Elyas M’Barek and Pacco-Luca Nitsche, the film shows arrest warrant’s life beyond fame and success from its most personal side – with appearances by rap greats such as the late Xatar, Celo & Abdi and Jan Delay.

Arrest warrant in the circle of his family and clean

The film sheds light on, among other things, the depths of a serious drug addiction, the warrant for his arrest, whose real name is Aykut Anhan, had expired. However, he seems to be doing better now. He wrote on Instagram on November 20: “I see your love and all your positive messages and with my family I will return stronger.”

Whether he has since given up drugs was initially left open in the film – until now. At his appearance in Osnabrück, the first concert since the documentary was released, arrest warrant answered the question that was on the tip of many people’s tongues: “You’ve probably all seen my documentary. I wanted to tell you, I’m clean,” the musician shouted to his fans from the stage on the night of November 15th – loud cheers erupted. “And I hope she stays that way too. Screw drugs!”
