She won gold at the Olympics and several world championship titles. Now Jessie Diggins has announced the end of her successful career.
Olympic cross-country skiing champion Jessie Diggins will end her career after the coming season. The American announced this on Wednesday in an emotional post on Instagram.
“It will be difficult to leave this sport that I love so much,” wrote the 34-year-old. “But at the same time, in my heart, it feels right and it will be exciting to start a new chapter in my life.” Skiing gave her “joy, challenges, self-confidence and community spirit”. And now: “Glitter on your face and go!”
The new World Cup season starts on November 28th. The highlight follows in February with the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo (February 6th to 22nd).
Diggins won gold in the team sprint in Pyeongchang in 2018 and became world champion in 2013 (team sprint) and 2023 (10 km freestyle). She won the overall World Cup in 2021, 2024 and most recently last winter.
