Fear of egg shortage due to bird flu: ‘There is little chance that there will be enough eggs in the shops next week’

The historically high egg price will not decrease anytime soon. This is partly the result of recent bird flu outbreaks. In fact, if the virus spreads in the Gelderse Valley, we are heading for an even greater egg shortage, also in the retail sector. “That would have a huge impact,” says Nico Bondt, agricultural economist at Wageningen University.
