Those who are said to be dead live longer – this was also true for a long time for the “Simpsons” character Alice Glick. The creators of the series had the church organist, also a member of the “First Church Of Springfield,” killed by a robot pet in season 23. But the character, first voiced by Cloris Leachman and later by Tress MacNeille, kept coming back, fully alive or as a ghost.
The 37th season of “The Simpsons” now marks its end, because the makers of the series let her die in the episode “Sashes To Sashes” (first aired on November 17th). Glick experienced her last minutes of life at her work equipment during a sermon by Reverend Lovejoy. Many fans online were shocked by the unexpected death. After all, the brilliant character was seen in the series for 34 years.
However, Glick made her first major appearance outside the Springfield church. In the episode “Three Friends and a Comic Book” from the second season, she offers Bart to help her around the house in exchange for money. She makes him work hard and pays him pretty poorly. Doctor Hibbert also once confessed in an episode that he had left his car keys in her during an operation. Glick was also repeatedly seen on the sidelines without playing a major role, for example at a Jebediah Springfield Day parade.
How many “Simpsons” characters still have to die?
Even if it seems that the “Simpsons” makers simply forgot to write the church organist out of the series, her death is now final. Executive producer Tim Long confirms to People: “In a way, Alice the organist will live on forever through the beautiful music she created. […] But in another, much more significant sense, she is, yes, dead as a mouse.”
The death of characters always causes a lot of excitement among the yellow people. While some famous deceased characters such as Edna Krabappel are due to the deaths of their speakers, the violent accidental death of Maude Flanders brought a storm of indignation. Most recently, the “Simpsons” passed away Larry “the Barfly” Dalrymple. For years he was a regular at Moe’s Tavern.
The apparently increased desire to attack one’s own characters (there was something with Marge too…) also annoys some viewers. “First Larry, now Alice Glick. The Simpsons are really killing everyone…” wrote a user on X after the current episode had aired.
Incidentally, the death of Alice Glick also has something “good” in the series. She bequeaths her inheritance to Springfield Elementary School so that it can set up its own early music education program.
