Thom van Campen is the new chairman of the House of Representatives. The VVD member trumps incumbent chairman Martin Bosma (PVV) and GL/PvdA member Tom van der Lee. At 35 years old, Van Campen is the youngest Speaker of the House ever. Bosma is disappointed that he has to give up the hammer again after two years. Three rounds of voting were needed to appoint a new chairman. Remarkably, Van Campen received the fewest votes in the first round. But in the second round many people switched from Van der Lee to the VVD member, who was considered to have a better chance in a direct duel with Bosma. Supporters of Bosma believe that a dirty political game has been played to keep the PVV out of all positions of power. Political reporter Tom Staal explains at News of the Day how the political game is often more important than the quality of a chairman.
