Ornella Calvete, former national director of Regional and Sectoral Development of the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce of the Ministry of Economy, presented her sworn statement last July before the Anti-Corruption Office (OA) recording a total assets of 46,872,077 pesos and just US$ 45,000 at the exchange rate of December 31. However, in a raid carried out in the context of the case for alleged bribes in ANDIS, Justice seized “close to US$ 700,000 and other currencies” from his home.
In her sworn statement, the official also recorded six apartments in the City of Buenos Aires – with different participations (one of 50% and another of 25%) – acquired between 2011 and 2014 by donation, with appraisals ranging from $145,000 to $11,968,282 according to the declared tax value. Likewise, he declared a 2021 model Peugeot 208 car ($3,635,400) and a Zanella Styler 150 motorcycle ($140,000).
In bank accounts, he recorded two savings accounts in pesos – $2,703,443 and $9,268,014 – and one in dollars, which contained US$1,801,880 at the official exchange rate of the date.
All these figures show a striking contrast: while the sworn statement totaled a declared equivalent of US$45,287, the discovery at his home was almost US$700,000.
The size of what was seized generated Calvete’s resignation from his position in the Ministry of Economy, accepted after the police operation was confirmed..
