Major rescue operation after ferry stranding in South Korea
A South Korean passenger ferry with 267 passengers and crew on board became stranded on Wednesday after the ship ran aground near the southwestern tip of the Korean Peninsula. The vessel is said to have struck a rocky island near Jindo, causing the stranding. Immediately afterwards, the authorities launched a large-scale rescue operation, using all available resources to bring everyone safely to shore. According to the coast guard, the 26,000-ton ferry was en route from Jeju Island to Mokpo when the incident occurred. Emergency services report that the situation is stable and that the passengers continue to wait calmly.
