RTL 4 has chosen at the last minute to broadcast the results of the new season of The Voice of Holland live on television. Why this turnaround?
You would think that RTL 4 would do everything it could to make the comeback of The Voice of Holland a resounding success, but nothing could be further from the truth: the channel is making major cuts and has even canceled all live shows. Actually, the grand final and the results were also supposed to be recorded in advance, but the channel has now changed that at the very last minute.
Still live
The Voice final will be recorded tomorrow, but will not be broadcast until May 8. After a storm of criticism, RTL 4 has last minute decided to continue with those recordings, but not to let the winner be determined by the studio audience present, but by the viewers at home. The winner will therefore only be announced on the eighth of May.
Where will that happen? If it still exists in RTL Tonight by then, and otherwise in another live program that will be shown after the recorded final. “It is not yet entirely clear what form this will take, for example whether the candidates will still sing live in RTL Tonight. The form will now be considered,” said RTL.
Woke up
The juice channel Juice Channel thinks it is wise of RTL. “Hey, they have finally woken up at RTL. They have decided to broadcast the final of The Voice partly live. A logical choice, because otherwise the winner would have been leaked prematurely. After all, we no longer live in 1980.”
The channel continues: “Everyone has a phone. And let’s be honest: many people in the studio cannot resist sharing results and gossip with us, precisely because they are not allowed to do so.”
‘It’s not possible!’
Private boss Evert Santegoeds agrees. He agrees Show news: “That is of course not possible in these times of juice channels. There is always someone who reveals that for the number of clicks that can be obtained at that moment. They did not dare to do that at RTL either.”
Studio guest Rob Geus: “They will have some viewers at RTL Tonight. Will they go above 500,000 viewers at some point.”
‘This is intense’
What does TV authority Tina Nijkamp think? She writes on her analysis channel: “Better. So RTL has listened to all the criticism. The winner cannot be kept a secret for six months. By the way, this is also intense for the four finalists!!!! You have to wait six months to see whether you will win or not.”
She continues: “But at least the viewer now gets a voice again. A small one (only in the finale) but still, this is better.”
Why?
The big question is: why RTL 4 decides this way last minute? A spy from Tina points out that the Voice Kids final has already been recorded, including the results. “With The Voice Kids this was a lot of hassle during the recordings.”
“Testing the votes already took an hour. All the audience left the hall and recorded the results show four times. I think they saw that it didn’t work, haha.”
