Crowned the world’s strongest man in 2017 Eddie Hall shared a video of his 13-year-old son on social media From Maximus Hallwhich rips 160 kilos off the ground.
The boy is 183 centimeters tall and weighs 101 kilograms. Many have wondered and wondered if training with such large weights is safe for the body of a young person who is still in the growth phase.
A bodybuilding legend Jari “Bull” Mentula assesses the situation calmly and points out that relative to Maximus’ size and height, the weight in question is not exceptionally large.
– Compared to that weight and height, it’s not even a big iron. In relation to that, he seems to be quite a youngster at that age already, says Mentula.
Mentula also considers the necessity and safety of training for young people in the growth phase.
– Is it necessary? Does that make any sense? Is it really necessary? But on the other hand, many other things are done at that age, he says.
Mentula admits that he has not seen the boy’s lifting technique, but emphasizes the importance of technique.
– If the techniques have been learned properly, why not? In weightlifting, techniques are practiced and weights are lifted at a very young age.
Mentula reminds that lifting with bad technique can damage the back regardless of age.
– If you pull from the ground with bad technique, whether you’re young or old, it can equally damage your back. But does it make sense… I won’t comment on that. He does what he wants now, and if he trains with his father, I guess the father knows what the boy is doing.
