Three-time Czech ice dance champion Natalie Taschlerova had put his phone on camera. The figure skater sat down on a chair, but immediately burst into tears.
After a while, he came back into the picture and started telling his story.
Taschlerova published a touching video and text on her Instagram profile. The 23-year-old athlete became ill with anorexia in 2019. Since then, life has been one battle, he described.
– I grew up in an environment where perfection meant perfect performance, a perfect body and a perfect smile. For a long time I thought it would be an asset, but I didn’t understand the pressures from outside.
– The constant commenting on my weight led to a fear of inadequacy. That pressure almost destroyed me, Taschlerova continued.
Taschlerova stopped menstruating for a year. Digestion didn’t work.
– My body gave out, and I developed an autoimmune disease. After last season I injured my ankle. I was completely exhausted and ready to give up, he continued.
Taschlerova said that there have been insulting comments about her weight both on social media and in traditional media. The figure skater was burnt out, and sleeping didn’t help the fatigue.
Only now has he been able to recover. Taschlerova has acquired a therapist and a professional in charge of diet and has received support from her close circle.
– My body is still recovering. But this time I myself will also recover along with it.
