The city also sees clear benefits. “It concerns about 250 tons of leaves that would otherwise have to go to a paying processing site,” says Agriculture Alderman Hannelore Vanhoenacker. “Now they go directly from the city to the farmer. The agricultural land, nature and the city benefit.”
The city is investigating whether the project can be expanded next year and whether more farmers can join.
