At Murrayfield the home team took the lead with a try from Dempsey and a brace from Ashman, then a stupid 10th led to the Pumas’ comeback signed by Montoya, Isgro, Rubiolo, Matera and Picardo
With a crazy comeback, Argentina beat Scotland 33-24 at Murrayfield in the match that completed the third weekend of the November international. Coach Felipe Contepomi’s Pumas were coming off a large victory over Wales (52-28) and are back to conquer Murrayfield 16 years after the last time and after 4 defeats in a row. For coach Greg Townsend’s team it is instead the second consecutive defeat after the 17-25 against the All Blacks.

In the 5th minute, a perfect insertion by Darcy Graham pierced the Argentine defense in the centre, then the winger offloaded behind his back attempted an assist for Jamie Dobie, but Juan Cruz Mallia stopped the pass with a voluntary forward touch: an inevitable yellow card for the Argentine fullback. However, Finn Russell throws away the following Scottish attack with a senseless pass. In the 13th minute the Scottish opener redeems himself by inventing a perfect interval between two Argentinians just outside the 22 to open up a highway towards the posts for number 8 Jack Dempsey. In the 28th minute Scotland eroded the field and wore down the Argentine defense with a perfect attack lasting 19 phases and ended with the turn in goal in front of the posts by hooker Ewan Ashman, who thus mocked the double tackle. Russell transforms both. On the other side, between the 23rd and 33rd minutes, Mallia goes twice from distance, always missing the target. And at the break it was 14-0.

In the 44th minute Ashman scored twice, projecting himself with perfect timing onto Dobie’s short pass to pierce two defenders who were too wide and launch himself at full speed beyond Geronimo Prisciantelli’s tackle. Russell converts, but shortly after commits an unforgivable foolishness, attempting a more than excessive pass on a deep attack, giving the ball to Rodrigo Isgrò, who runs away and serves the substitute scrumhalf Augustin Moyano for the sprint to the out, the ball is then kicked towards the 22 undefended Scots where Blair Kinghorn is forced into an unsportsmanlike foul to prevent Mateo Carreras from continuing the action: an impeccable yellow. Argentina remains in attack and in the 57th minute a long pick-and-go phase by the forwards allows Julian Montoya to spike. 3 minutes pass and the Pumas return to hammer the Scottish 5 metres, with their forwards engaging the defense in the centre, and then clearing the gap into which the winger Isgrò slips. Santiago Carreras converts the first for -9. Russell’s stupidity cost Scotland a yellow and 12 points. The Scottish opener in the 64th minute chooses the posts from a difficult position and doesn’t make a mistake. In the 70th minute, however, Argentina fully returned to the game, closing a long phase in attack, taking advantage of a free free kick to open up Pedro Rubiolo to the breakthrough under the posts of the second line. The situation of the first half is completely reversed and the Argentines are on the pitch: and so in the 75th minute it is substitute flanker Pablo Matera who breaks through under the posts. Carreras converts both and the Pumas are ahead 26-24. And in the 79th minute, Justo Picardo’s slalom goal finally closed the score, which Carreras converted for the final 33-24.
