The winter sports season starts at the end of November. For the German aces, it’s about building up good form for the Olympics – several talents could impress.

The new ski racing season has already started with the World Cup race in Sölden. The ski jumpers start on November 20th in Lillehammer in Norway. The biathletes start on November 29th in Östersund in Sweden. Cross-country skiers and Nordic combined skiers also start the new season at similar times.

And it has a very special highlight: the Winter Olympics will take place in Milan and Cortina d’Amezzo in Italy in February next year. t-online names German talents and athletes who you should keep an eye on until then because they could cause a surprise this season.

Last season Franziska Preuß won the overall World Cup. The German biathlete and pursuit world champion is once again one of the favorites this winter. Another DSV athlete could also convince: Selina Grotian. The 21-year-old made her World Cup debut two years ago and won bronze in the mixed relay this year. Together with the 20 year old Julia Tannheimer They form a duo that can achieve a lot in the future.

Preuss sees it that way too. She said in an interview with “Olympics.com” in the spring of this year: “There were always races in which you could see their potential. Both are still extremely young. You’re not that consistent at this age, you have more ups and downs. Both will regularly play a role in the award ceremonies in one, two or three years.”

The same applies to the German ski racer Emma Aicher. The 21-year-old won silver with the team at the Games in Beijing three years ago. She has also proven her skills in individual competitions and has won two World Cups so far.

At the World Championships this year, Aicher impressively showed that she is the German skiing hope of the future: In the downhill she had start number 30 and still managed to finish sixth. Aicher could also be in the team combination with Lena Dürr, who, as an experienced ski racer, has a chance of a podium place, especially in slalom.

Spectators could also be on the podium this winter Philipp Raimund see more often. The 25-year-old German ski jumper recently secured overall victory in the Summer Grand Prix and is in top form. At the German Championships he finished just behind the surprise winner Felix Hoffmann. Raimund jumped onto the podium in the World Cup for the first time in February 2024. This could happen more often to “Hille”, as he is also called.
