Emma Aicher came third at the first Slalom World Cup of the season. Meanwhile, Mikaela Shiffrin was once again in a league of her own.
“I was never that far ahead in training,” said the surprised Emma Aicher in an interview with “ORF”. With a brilliant second round, the 22-year-old achieved her first slalom podium. However, in Levi, Finland, there was no getting past Mikaela Shiffrin. The American ski star was in a league of her own with a lead of 1.66 seconds over second-placed Lara Colturi. With two good runs, Lena Dürr narrowly missed the podium and finished tied for fourth.
102nd World Cup victory for Shiffrin
In the first round, Shiffrin was over a second ahead of Colturi, followed by Dürr with +1.49 seconds. However, in the second run, the 34-year-old fell back a little and had to settle for fourth place, which she shares with Paula Moltzan.
“I noticed that I was missing a little something. And when you saw Mikaela over the last few days, it was almost clear to me that she was going to add a lot,” said the ski racer from SV Germering after the first run on “ORF”. Shiffrin seems to be in her own league at the moment and adopted the ninth reindeer with her victory in Levi.
Aicher: “I’m rarely nervous”
The best German was Emma Aicher. After a somewhat hesitant first run, the 22-year-old showed a sparkling clean second run and improved by four positions to third place. The calmness that the all-rounder showed on the slopes was particularly impressive: “I’m rarely nervous and I’m very happy that I can just drive without getting nervous,” said Aicher on “ORF”. At the start of the World Cup In Sölden, Aicher finished 28th in the giant slalom with two mixed runs.
Ertl and Hilzinger didn’t make it to the second run
The 18-year-old Romy Ertl certainly imagined her World Cup debut differently. The daughter of former world-class ski racer Martina Ertl was eliminated in the first round after losing her rhythm in the upper section. Jessica Hilzinger from SC Oberstdorf narrowly failed to make it into the second run with 32nd place after the first round.
