Three seriously injured people were seriously injured in a very large fire in the Tilburg residential care center De Leyhoeve on Dokter Bloemenlaan on Saturday evening. The trio was taken to hospital. About two hundred residents have been evacuated.

The emergency services are “not yet investigating the cause of the fire”, a spokesperson for the Central and West Brabant Safety Region said by telephone. NRC. The spokesperson cannot yet confirm whether all residents have been evacuated: the fire brigade is still busy checking apartments for residents just before seven o’clock in the evening.
‘Keep windows and doors closed’
Due to the “advanced” extinguishing work, the fire is now under control. The emergency services are currently dealing with smoke development and possible danger from carbon monoxide. The fire brigade advises local residents to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off the ventilation in the house.
As a result of the fire, a water pipe also burst, resulting in a significant water leak on the ground floor. “They are busy with that,” said the spokesperson.
A “large group of residents” of the residential care center left on their own initiative to a nearby hotel. Emergency workers also took a number of people there.
