Gordon wanted to attend Viola Holt’s funeral and therefore contacted her relatives. “And they said that there would really only be family,” said the singer, who already thought she looked bad.

Viola Holt, who died at the age of 76, was cremated this week in Hilversum. There were only about ten people present, certainly not including Gordon. The Radio 10 DJ would have liked to be there, he says Story. “I have been in contact with the family, and they said that there is really only family. I have to respect that.”

‘She looked bad’

Gordon saw Viola last month. “Two weeks before she died, I saw Viola. She came to have lunch with me in Blaricum. And to be honest, I was shocked at how bad she looked. She wasn’t doing well. I was really worried. When I heard that she had died of a heart attack, I wasn’t surprised.”

Coincidentally, Goor also saw the death of Jonnie Boer coming earlier this year. “I think it’s really intense. I was still talking to him. I have to be honest: I thought he looked really bad too. Yes, really. I was actually shocked by it. I mean: I think he’s a very beautiful man to look at,” he said.

‘It’s terrible’

Back to Viola: Goor is sorry that she has passed away. “It’s terrible that she is no longer here. I can’t even imagine that. Viola has always been very important to me.”

Viola was a big fan of his repertoire, he believes. “She was a huge fan of my song If only I could be with you for a moment. When I came to her studio, she lay down on the table completely swooning and exclaimed how much she thought I was. Hilarious! From that moment on we became very good friends.”

‘Trust no one!’

Gordon learned a lot from her. “Her most important advice to me was never to trust anyone in the profession. She was right about that. She experienced that herself in 1998, when she was sidelined by RTL 4 because she was too old. She was not yet fifty!”

He concludes: “She then left for Mexico with Peter, her great love. Away from everything. I feel so sad for her husband. They were really one. So much love, so much warmth.”
