The Füchse Berlin handball players remain victorious in the Champions League. At the end of the first half of the season in Group A, the Bundesliga team won 38:37 (20:19) against Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon on Thursday evening. With an impeccable record of seven wins in seven games, the German champions remain at the top of the table. The best Berlin throwers were Mathias Gidsel with 13, as well as Lasse Andersson and Tobias Grondahl with eight goals each.
Sporting set a lot of pace in attack from the start and repeatedly created large gaps in Berlin’s defense. At first the guests held up well offensively, but when the first mistakes crept into the game, the Portuguese took the lead. It was too easy for them to get to their goals and they moved ahead 10:7 after just under 13 minutes.
But then the foxes improved. In the middle of the first half, Lasse replaced Ludwig Dejan Milosavljev in the Berlin goal and made an exclamation mark with three saves. The Foxes were now better defensively and were able to take back the lead with a 3-0 run (15:13). Now it was the Berliners who scored quick goals with a lot of speed.
After the break, the guests punished Sporting’s mistakes coldly and were able to pull away (26:22). The game became more heated and the hosts kept coming closer. Two minutes before the end, Andersson also saw the red card. In the end, the Foxes had to tremble again, but they managed a narrow victory.
