The Disciplinary Commission in Turkish Football (PFDK) announced the verdicts for the professionals involved in the betting scandal on Thursday. This resulted in long bans for several players from the Süper Lig and the 1st Lig. In the upper house, things got tough for Alassane Ndao (28, Konyaspor) and Abdulsamet Burak (29, Kayserispor), who – along with three second division players – were each given a twelve-month ban. At Galatasaray, Metehan Baltacı (23) was also hit hard with nine months, while Gala’s national player Eren Elmalı (25) got away with just 45 days. The latter penalty was applied to most of the professionals affected, including Cologne-born Nazım Sangaré (31, Gaziantep).

The second division professionals who were each banned for twelve months are Oktay Aydın, Orkun Özdemir (Boluspor) and Ali Şaşal Vural (Sivasspor).
At the end of October, the Turkish Football Association (TFF) announced allegations that a total of 152 referees were said to have actively placed bets and announced investigations against clubs and thousands of players. The association has suspended 149 referees and assistant referees for periods between eight and twelve months. A court in Istanbul has issued eight arrest warrants against suspects, including the president of the Eyüpspor club, Murat Özkaya.
