Cchange of direction (and also expected style) at Balmain. After fourteen years of glittering glamor signed by Olivier Rousteing, the French fashion house entrusts its creative direction to Antonin Tron, Parisian designer with a penchant for the architecture of the body and the poetry of fabric.
Founder of Atlein and graduate of the Antwerp Academy, Tron will bring a more intimate and tailored aesthetic to Parisfaithful to Pierre Balmain’s motto: “tailoring is the architecture of movement”. His debut? We will have to wait until March 2026during Paris Fashion Week.
Who is the new creative director of Balmain
Born in Paris in 1984 and trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Antonin Tron belongs to that generation of designers who boasts a certain technical rigor. After graduating in 2008, he has worked for some of the most influential fashion houses of the French panorama – Louis Vuitton, Givenchy, Balenciaga and, more recently, Saint Laurent – where he refined an approach to design that favors the construction, movement and physicality of fabric.

In 2016 he founded his independent brandAtlein, which has become recognizable in just a few years thanks to fluid drapes and contemporary tailoring. His aesthetic, deeply rooted in body culture and awareness of gesture, has earned him international awards and the attention of the industry. Today, with his appointment as creative director of Balmain, Tron marks the beginning of a new chapter for itself and for the historic Parisian fashion house.
Where were we?
The news came only a week ago that Olivier Rousteing has left the creative direction of Balmainafter fourteen years in which he transformed the maison into a symbol of power, sensuality and spectacle. The French designer, entered in 2011 at just twenty-five years old, had brought the brand into the social media era, making it synonymous with global glamor and direct connection with celebrities. Before him, Christophe Decarnin (2006-2011) had inaugurated the season of Balmain rock, made of sculpted shoulders, mini-dresses and crystals: a bold aesthetic that brought the maison back to center stage after years of silence. Even earlier, between 1993 and 2002, Oscar de la Renta he had instead opted to preserve the classic and couture elegance of the house, restoring luster to its Parisian heritage with an American touch. Today the witness of the “New French Style”, invented by Pierre Balmain in 1945, passes to Antonin Tron.
Style in reverse: Antonin Tron’s debut
The first chapter of the new Balmain era will be revealed in March 2026, during Paris Fashion Week. And if there is a thread that unites Antonin Tron to Pierre Balmainis that ofobsession with the body and its architecture. But where the founder built grand soirée silhouettes and Rousteing amplified them in the name of social glamour, Tron promises a silent revolution: bring the Balmain woman back to her essence, sculpting her forms, without losing scenic tension.

His Balmain will certainly be less flashy than the previous one, more intimate, but no less memorable. Indeed, it could bring the maison back to the center of the Parisian scene, where it all began.
A return to originstherefore, but with your gaze turned forward. Time in time, for a new Balmain.
