Long-time BVB professional Lukasz Piszczek has taken up his second position as head coach. The 40-year-old was introduced as the new coach at Polish second division club GKS Tychy. Piszczek received a contract until 2027 with an option for a one-year extension and is faced with the task of leading the club back into safer table regions. Tychy is currently in third-to-last place with just twelve points from 16 games.
“I am happy to start a new stage on my coaching journey. In recent years I have been preparing for coaching and today I can show it in a place that has great potential and ambition. GKS Tychy is a club with history and passionate fans. Together with the team, I want to create a solid foundation for long-term development. I believe in daily work, consistency and responsibility,” said Piszczek.
After retiring from his career, the former 66-time Poland international was initially player-coach at his youth club Goczalkowice before becoming an assistant under Nuri Şahin at Borussia Dortmund. After the end at BVB, he returned to the fourth division club Goczalkowice, where he was on the sidelines in 16 games until his new commitment.
