Eva Jinek causes annoyance to Victor Vlam and Guido den Aantrekker with her discussion of the BBC scandal. Right-wing conservative opinion makers think it is too one-sided. “Absurd.”
The BBC’s general manager and the news branch’s editor-in-chief have resigned from their positions over a documentary about US President Donald Trump. In this, two parts of a speech by Trump from January 2021 are edited together, namely: ‘We are going to the Capitol’ and ‘we are going to fight like the devil’.
Useful suspects
There was actually a 50-minute gap between these statements, but the editing made it seem as if Trump was directly calling for a fight in the Capitol. The fact that two leaders have now resigned from the BBC is a bit of an exaggeration, said EenVandaag reporter Tom van ‘t Einde last night in Eva Jinek’s talk show.
In addition to Tom, Eva also discussed the news with Volkskrant editor-in-chief Pieter Klok and Americanist Coks Donders. Story editor-in-chief Guido den Aantrekker is critical and writes down X: “The useful suspects without self-reflection in Eva Jinek, I understand. Looking back or never mind?”
‘Never mind!’
TV critic Victor Vlam doesn’t have to think long. “Never mind,” he says. “Ai, ai, ai. Eva Jinek talks to three people at the table about the BBC’s blunder. At the table is the editor-in-chief of the Volkskrant who plays it down. But no right-wing conservative guest. While the BBC has actually suffered major damage to this group. Absurd.”
Podcast maker Bas Paternotte: “Volkskrant editor-in-chief with a mustache on his forehead: BBC should have immediately admitted that they were wrong with lie editing about Trump because [komt ie] otherwise the radical right will walk away with it. LOL.”
Victor: “That was a really ridiculous point! My god.”
