The students of Durperhonk primary school are doing everything they can to ‘shine’ at Santa Claus next Saturday. When the saint has arrived at the port, all Texel schools can present themselves. It should be a short but unforgettable meeting. The children from De Cocksdorp therefore dress up as a lighthouse and sing in a parade past Santa Claus.
“It is the song with which we will welcome Sinterklaas. It is about Texel, the lighthouse and Sinterklaas,” says one of the students. Everything is broadcast on national television, but she is very relaxed about it. “Practices are already going very well.”
“It is a special song based on existing music, but with lyrics from my own writing,” teacher Johanna Wielinga explains. “We want to show Santa and the entire country what a small school can be great at.”
