The remains of the soldier in question were found on September 23 last year along the banks of the IJzer in Diksmuide, during the construction of a cycle path on the IJzerdijk.
The discovery of human remains is not uncommon in the Westhoek. Almost every month they find bodies of soldiers from the First World War. These often include British, French and Germans, even Australians, Canadians and New Zealanders.
