A bitter setback for combiner Vinzenz Geiger: The two-time Olympic champion and overall World Cup winner from the previous winter suffered three bony ligament tears on his right foot during strength training and thus missed the start of the Olympic season.
“It turned out stupidly, a bad time. But I’m already in rehab and hope to be back at the start as soon as possible,” said the 28-year-old from Oberstdorf.
National coach Eric Frenzel said: “The good thing is that it isn’t anything long. The injury should now heal well and then you can get back into it pretty quickly. But we don’t want to let ourselves be stressed.”
As the German Ski Association announced, Geiger will skip the first World Cup stations in Kuusamo (November 29th to December 1st) and Lillehammer (December 7th/8th).
The Winter Olympics take place from February 6th to 22nd. After the resignation of Norwegian Jarl Magnus Riiber, Geiger was the favorite for the new season.
