Atalanta Bergamo reacts to the weak start to the season and releases coach Ivan Jurić. It is not his first dismissal in the last twelve months.
The Italian first division club Atalanta Bergamo has parted ways with coach Ivan Jurić. The 2024 Europa League winner responded to the weak start to the season, after Sunday’s 3-0 home defeat against US Sassuolo, Atalanta is only in 13th place in Serie A. Former Italian international Raffaele Palladino (most recently AC Fiorentina) is being traded as Jurić’s successor.
The former Croatian international Jurić only inherited Atalanta’s iconic coach Gian Piero Gasperini (now AS Roma) this season. Under the 67-year-old, the club won the Europa League title and established itself in the top group of Serie A.
Atalanta got off to a satisfactory start in the Champions League with seven points from four games, where the Lombards will be guests at Eintracht Frankfurt on the next matchday (November 26th).
By the way, this is Jurić’s third dismissal within a year. At the same time a year ago he had to leave after twelve competitive games at AS Roma. Shortly afterwards he took over the then Premier League club Southampton FC. In April he was also thrown out after a sporting decline. Southampton were relegated at the end of the season.
