The national ice hockey team won the Germany Cup for the eleventh time with a convincing win against Slovakia. At the end of the German Ice Hockey Association’s home tournament there was a 3-0 (2-0, 1-0, 0-0) against the 2022 Olympic bronze medalist in Landshut.
In front of a good 3,300 spectators, Parker Tuomie (11th minute), Bennet Roßmy (12th) and Fabio Wagner (23rd) scored the goals for national coach Harold Kreis’ selection, which has gained momentum towards the Winter Games in Milan.
After Germany’s 4-1 start against Latvia, the direct comparison with the Slovaks resulted in the tournament victory. It was the 36th edition of the traditional home tournament.
“I can’t answer the question of why today was so much better than yesterday, nor why the team performed like that yesterday,” said national coach Harold Kreis to Sportschau after the tournament win, “the team was just as annoyed after the 2:5. But today we kept the pace and the level.”
This time improved and more committed
Without any notable personnel changes, the district selection was hardly recognizable compared to the 2:5 setback against Austria on Saturday. This time Germany came into the game improved and more committed.

However, the previously strong Slovaks also made things easy for the German team with violent fouls at the beginning. The Slovaks collected penalty times early on and even gave Germany two situations where they had a double majority, which the DEB team did not take advantage of.
Double strike from Tuomie and Roßmy
Nevertheless, there was more movement in the game than the day before. A double strike from Tuomie and Roßmy brought the 2-0 lead and calm. For the first goal, the newly nominated Haie striker Tuomie took advantage of a serious defensive error by the Slovaks.

The absence of important players was noticeable against Austria, but this time there was no sign of it. In addition to Kreis’ voluntary waiver of the heavily stressed players from champions Eisbären Berlin, strikers Tobias Rieder and Dominik Kahun and defender Lukas Kälble were also injured at short notice.
Magnificent shot from Wagner
But the same thing happened against the previously strong Slovaks. There was little sign of tension in the game given the pressure of being recommended for the Olympic squad. At the beginning of the middle period, Munich defender Wagner increased the score with a wonderful shot from the blue line.
As a result, the German team took the lead confidently and with concentration over time.
