Singles often work harder, but have a lot less net income: “Stopping early to exercise? No, that is not accepted”

Nowhere in the world do working singles pay as much taxes as in Belgium. And 1 in 4 thinks he has to work harder than colleagues in a relationship. This is evident from research by professor of labor economics Stijn Baert (UGent). He calls the financial and psychological pressure on singles “gigantic” and calls for urgent tax reform. Two singles testify: “It is often assumed that I work an extra hour.”
