PSV settled with AZ without any difficulty. In Alkmaar, the Eindhoven team led 0-3 after thirty minutes on Sunday, after which it eventually became 1-5. An important victory for PSV, which increased the gap with AZ to seven points. Guus Til was the man of the match with a hat trick.
PSV coach Peter Bosz seems to have finally found a permanent eleven, because he sent the same eleven names onto the field for the fourth match in a row. Guus Til was still preferred to Ricardo Pepi at the point of attack.
PSV got out of the starting blocks, or you could say that it was helped in the saddle by AZ goalie Rome-Jayden Owuso-Oduro. He pushed the ball into the feet of Mauro Júnior in the 5th minute and the Brazilian did not miss this mega opportunity.
Five minutes later the second was already in for the Eindhoven team. Ismael Saibari laid the ball ready for Til, who made no mistake. First the flag was flagged for offside, but the VAR saw it differently and so it quickly became 0-2 for PSV.
Huge lead
PSV played AZ from pillar to post and within half an hour the 0-3 was already on the scoreboard. Júnior sent Til away with a beautiful high through ball. The PSV striker cut down AZ defender Wouter Goes and could only approach Owuso-Oduro. Til stayed cool and blasted PSV’s third into the short corner.
AZ barely got in front of Matej Kovar’s goal and the three points seemed to be in the bag for PSV. But then suddenly there was the captain of the Alkmaarders, Sven Mijnans. A sloppy ball from him was too difficult for Kovar to reverse, although it seemed like a tenable ball. And so AZ set the halftime score at 3-1.
The second half was not nearly as spectacular as the first half. Ivan Perisic got into trouble with Wouter Goes, but there were not many clear-cut opportunities. Fortunately, Peter Bosz has a number of players with exceptional qualities. One of those players is Joey Veerman. Around the sixtieth minute he received the ball on the edge of the box from Dennis Man and finished flawlessly.
Guus Til made it 1-5 in injury time, also the final score, with a header. It was the Eindhoven striker’s third goal in this match and so he takes the match ball home.
Brabant derby
This victory brings PSV to 31 points from twelve games. The reigning champion now (temporarily) occupies first place. Feyenoord will play against Go Ahead Eagles later tonight and with a win they will have the same number of points as PSV.
No PSV next week. There is international football. The Dutch national team, with Jerdy Schouten in the selection, can qualify for the World Cup. PSV’s next match is scheduled for November 22. Then the Brabant cracker at NAC is the next hurdle for the people of Eindhoven.
