The surprise team of the 2nd Bundesliga celebrates their next victory. VfL Bochum also continues its run.

SC Paderborn has maintained its lead in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Ralf Kettemann’s team prevailed in a duel of opposites against bottom team 1. FC Magdeburg with an arduous 1-0 (1-0) and celebrated their eighth league success in a row.

Sebastian Klaas (9th) shot the Paderborn team back to the top (29 points) after Schalke 04 (27) had pushed past SV Elversberg with a 1-0 (1-0) win overnight. Magdeburg, the more active team for long stretches, is still in the relegation battle with seven points.

The hosts set an offensive tone right from the start before Klaas pulled away just before the edge of the penalty area. FCM goalkeeper Dominik Reimann was powerless to deal with the deflected shot. Shortly afterwards there was a small setback for Paderborn: top scorer Filip Bilbija had to leave the field injured (20th). Luis Engelns came for him.

Magdeburg continued to be brave and powerful. When the ball hit Paderborn defender Tjark Scheller’s arm during a tackle in the penalty area, it briefly looked as if the FCM’s efforts would be rewarded. According to the video images, referee Felix Prigan withdrew his penalty decision (29th). However, Magdeburg initially remained dangerous, even if Paderborn now got into the game a little better.

Fourth game, third defeat: Fortuna Düsseldorf is not getting going with coach Markus beginning. Last year’s ambitious sixth-place team lost 0-1 (0-0) to Bundesliga relegated Holstein Kiel on the 12th matchday of the lower house. The Rhinelanders who have slipped are dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Kasper Davidsen scored with a cracking direct pass (57th) to give Holstein the lead and thus the decision, increasing initial concerns as he met many familiar faces at his old employer. He once led Kiel from the 3rd league to the top of the 2nd league in 2017 and only missed out on promotion in the relegation. With Fortuna he still has a lot of work to do to penetrate similar spheres.

In Kiel, both teams fought a lot of duels, Fortuna only had two chances to take the lead through Christian Rasmussen shortly before the half-time whistle. Holstein didn’t deliver a spectacle either, but then he hit consistently. Düsseldorf then fought for the equalizer, but it didn’t come.

VfL Bochum has continued its upward trend. Coach Uwe Rösler’s team won 2-0 (1-0) at Eintracht Braunschweig on Sunday afternoon and remained unbeaten for the fourth game in a row. With their fourth win of the season, VfL gained a three-point cushion over the relegation zone.
