“KPop Demon Hunters” is one of Netflix’s biggest hits of all time. Apparently this wasn’t expected from the streamer.
Only in 2029, i.e. in four years, will Netflix serve us “KPop Demon Hunters 2”. That’s how long it takes to produce the sequel to the mega hit. This is common in animated films, but also indicates that no further part was originally planned.

Editorial recommendations
No film from the streaming giant has ever been as successful as the story of a fictional K-pop band developed by Sony Pictures Animation (“Hotel Transylvania,” “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse”).
Not much is known about the sequel to KPop Demon Hunters”. Directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans will be there again. The focus will once again be on the fictional K-pop girl group HUNTR/X, who lead a double life in addition to their everyday life on stage and fight against demons that take the form of a rival boy band called Saja Boys.
The singalong version, which Netflix also released in theaters for a short period of time and which earned $18 million in just two days, proves how great the interest in “KPop Demon Hunters” is. The soundtrack to the film, including music by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and Rei Ami, is a regular on the Billboard album charts, and the film song “Golden” also spent eight weeks at number 1 on the Hot 100.
Actually, it shouldn’t be about K-Pop at all
Interesting to know: Originally it wasn’t supposed to be about K-Pop. Creator Maggie Kang actually only wanted to create a South Korean animation project because it didn’t yet exist in Hollywood. Kang wanted to show creatures from Korean mythology that she had met in her childhood.
The plot, which was planned as a demon story, finally took on a new dimension with the turn to the cult of South Korean bands like BTS. “The movie immediately became bigger, it became a musical and there was just more spectacle,” Kang said. Of course it was a given that several stars from the scene contributed music.
