Medal joy at the German Shooting Association (DSB): Maximilian Dallinger surprisingly won gold with the air rifle at the World Shooting Championships.

The 26th in the world rankings prevailed in the final with the last shot against the Swede Victor Lindbergh. Dallinger also won team silver together with Maximilian Ulbrich and Daniel Bühlmeyer.

“It’s unbelievable,” said the 29-year-old after his triumph. “I worked for the final and qualifying for it was the first victory for me, the medal and the world title are incredible.”

Four Asians including Olympic champion Sheng Lihao and four Europeans qualified for the final of the best eight individual shooters. Dallinger was considered an outsider chance at best, but the 29-year-old presented himself at a consistently high level until the final phase of the final. In the event of a tie, the last shot had to decide the World Cup title. Lindgren scored a 9.9 on the target, which the man from Freising exceeded with a 10.2.

The performance of the DSB team was also convincing. The trio relegated Hungary to third place and only lost out against strong Chinese.
