Lando Norris secured victory in the Formula 1 sprint race in Brazil. His teammate, however, crashed. There was reason to be happy at Mercedes.

What a sprint race in Brazil: Lando Norris secured the start-to-finish victory. Kimi Antonelli took second place. His Mercedes teammate George Russell ended up in third place. Red Bull star Max Verstappen came fourth.

With the victory, Norris extended his championship lead and also benefited from an early accident involving his toughest title rival and teammate Oscar Piastri. However, this was a shock for McLaren: Piastri crashed and hit turn three. Shortly afterwards, German Formula 1 star Nico Hülkenberg (Kick Sauber) and Franco Colapinto (Alpine) also came off the track at this point. The drivers probably had problems because there was water on the track and the tires lost grip. The sprint was then interrupted.

It was later seen from Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli’s cockpit perspective that Norris had driven over a notch and thereby brought water onto the road. This then proved fatal for his teammate and the other drivers. Due to the elimination, Piastri is now nine points behind Norris in the overall standings. Verstappen is 39 points short of the championship lead.

The race was interrupted for over ten minutes because the tire stacks in the gang had to be adjusted. Hülkenberg was then able to start again. It got a new nose and a new rear wing. Norris managed the restart well. Although he had problems shortly before the end of the sprint, he still secured victory ahead of the Mercedes drivers.
