The local Ostend police zone received a disturbing report on Wednesday afternoon about a man who may have planned to commit an attack at the Ostend station. Following this report, the necessary measures were immediately taken. The station was closed and train and tram traffic were completely stopped.
The police were able to arrest the suspect near the station around 2:15 p.m. The young man from Oudenaarde turned out to have nothing suspicious in his pocket. A thorough sweep of the station also yielded no suspicious elements. According to the Bruges department of the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office, psychological problems may be the basis of the facts.
