Defending champion Germany has to worry about progressing at the U17 World Cup in Qatar. The youth selection of the German Football Association (DFB) did not get past a disappointing 1-1 (0-0) draw against North Korea in their second group game in Doha. Wisdom Mike (62nd minute) from FC Bayern took the lead, Il-bok Han (81st) equalized. At the start, the DFB selection also played 1-1 against Colombia.
Before the last matchday in Group G, coach Marc-Patrick Meister’s team is in second place with two points behind North Korea (4 points) and ahead of Colombia (2). With a win against bottom group El Salvador (1) on Monday (2:30 p.m. CET/skysport.de), the German selection would surely move into the round of 16 of the World Cup, in which a total of 48 teams are taking part.
Third place in the group is also enough to advance, as long as at least four third-placed teams from the twelve preliminary round groups perform worse. The final will take place on November 27th. Two years ago, the then U17 team won the World Cup title in Indonesia under current women’s national coach Christian Wück.
