The women of RB Leipzig prevailed in the central German Bundesliga duel against Carl Zeiss Jena. While RB is starting a small series, Jena is still waiting for its first win after nine games.
RB Leipzig won 2-0 (1-0) against FC Carl Zeiss Jena on matchday 9 of the women’s Bundesliga. The victory on Thursday evening (November 6th) was deserved in the end, but the RB women were lucky in one scene.
RB hits the goal – Jena only hits the crossbar
Leipzig managed two wins in a row for the first time this season. Emilía Ásgeirsdóttir laid the foundation for success after 20 minutes when she pushed an extended corner over the line. Previously, the game had offered few highlights. Jena had its best and only shot a few minutes later, but Nelly Juckel only hit the crossbar from 25 meters.
The RB women also dominated the game in the second half. Jena got a little stronger as the game progressed, but a decent finish didn’t come out of it. The decision was made after 76 minutes, albeit under controversial circumstances. After a foul outside the penalty area on Delice Boboy, Karoline Wacker decided on a penalty – a wrong decision. But Annabel Schasching didn’t care, she scored to make it 2-0.
RB now climbs to eighth place with 13 points, Jena remains second to last with only two points.
