Well, did you all still have them on your radar?

Some are enthusiastic about them, others are simply annoyed, others try to ignore them completely: chart hits. Nevertheless, you can always clearly tell from these particularly successful songs, which often become catchy tunes, what the year in question stood for or what aesthetic was popular at the time. We have put together ten songs that dominated the German single charts in 2015.

Editorial recommendations

For the list, we used the sales figures from the German charts over the year 2015. The source for this was the “Official Charts” page of the charter agent GfK Entertainment. It can be observed that whether the song was at number 1 for a particularly long time is not always decisive for the success of a song. It was rather the longevity of some titles that was decisive for the high ranking in the following list, which we present in ascending order.

10th place: Kygo feat. Conrad Sewell – “Firestone”

The song by the Norwegian DJ Kygo, for which he brought the British-Australian singer Conrad Sewell on board, combines many ingredients of the successful electro-pop of the 10s: long, emotional build-up, then the cathartic chorus with a sing-along part à la “We light up the world”, before the most important thing comes: the party synth hook, which gives the song the necessary club qualifications. “Firestone’s” peak chart position was only third place, where the track only stayed for a week. But the title was successful in the long term and stayed in the charts for an impressive 57 weeks – and therefore more than a year (!).

It was the song for the sad finale of the car action film “Furious 7”: US rapper Wiz Khalifa not only packed a lot of emotion into his pop ballad, but also included singer Charlie Puth on the track. Chart result of this ballad for tuning fans: 4 weeks at number 1 in the German charts. The track stayed in the top 100 for a total of 53 weeks.

8th place: Robin Schulz feat. Francesco Yates – “Sugar”

With his cover of the 2003 hit “Suga Suga” by Baby Bash, which was adapted to the sound of the time, Robin Schulz from Lower Saxony demonstrated a tremendous instinct for hits. And that was rewarded: His electro-pop chillwave hit, on which he had the Canadian singer Francesco Yates take part, stayed in the charts for a total of 55 weeks, including three weeks at number 1.

7th place: Adele – “Hello”

The opener from Adele’s mega-seller album “25” stayed in the charts for a comparatively short time compared to the other songs in this list. “Hello” stayed in the top 100 for just 33 weeks.

But a third of the time, namely a whopping 11 (!) weeks, the song was at number 1 in the charts, including even into the following year 2016. It wasn’t until January 15, 2016 that “Hello” lost its place in the sun to the Deepend remix of Matt Simons’ “Catch & Release”.
